Want a bit more detail?

Choosing who to work with is a big decision. I can’t wait to get to know you too!

Here’s my full story:

Growing up just in a major tourism hotspot, working in the hospitality industry was a given.

From my first-ever job of working at a travel agency, to teaching kids snowboarding at Whistler/Blackcomb, to running the Whistler Visitor Info Centre booths, to working front-line for helicopter charter tours, working in the hospitality/tourism industry happened easily.

Even after earning a BA in Communications from Simon Fraser University, my work never strayed far from the hospitality & tourism industry.

I developed my organizational skills by managing event planning for World Cup action sports events such as snowboarding, wakeboarding, skateboarding, and mountain biking. I also spent a year in London, UK, writing for the Sunday Times Travel Magazine. Back home in Vancouver, and worked for a boutique public relations firm, writing press kits, pitching to travel writers, coming up with story starters, and organizing media visits. Additionally, I pursued freelance writing on the side, creating travel and lifestyle pieces for various regional and international publications.

Baking: Science Meets Creativity
It wasn’t until a year in pastry school (you read that right!) and starting up my own custom cake business that web design entered my life.
In between meeting clients, doing cake tastings, and setting up wedding cakes, I found myself building - and rebuilding, just for fun - my own website.

While I’ve since hung up my whisks and now just bake for fun, but those cake websites were the start of a love that perfectly combined my artistic side, my logical strategic side, and my skillset of combining words with strategy, to help promote small businesses. That was back in the early 2010’s, and since then have combined strategic marketing know-how, website design prowess, and a deep understanding of the strategy behind hospitality marketing.

In 2021 I earned a Diploma in Digital Marketing from McMaster University and also completed the Tourism Digital Academy from Destination BC. In recent years, I’ve worked with destination marketing organizations, a luxury RV dealer, a boutique Inn and restaurant, along with wineries, distilleries, F&B businesses along the way, with their marketing and website design and management.

Website design is a special art - but to do it well, and strategically, there is much involved in understanding the industry, the audience, and the digital strategy required.
It’s much more than ‘just a website’. While many small business owners attempt to DIY their own websites, having someone who understands the process, the audience, and the technical needs is a delicate balance. A website that drives traffic, pulls leads and converts clients is the goal.

Living in a small community, again, in a tourism hotspot, Fresh Pressed Marketing supports small businesses that need a polished public image, but are too small to have their own on-staff marketing employee (or who are too small to invest a large amount of money into a custom coded website).

Small businesses can’t afford to ignore the importance of marketing. In fact….dedicating time and energy to marketing can be even more critical for small businesses to succeed. I’m here to take this load off your plate.

The Fresh Pressed Difference

Strategy First

Your website needs to be built from a strategy-driven, goals-oriented position. This makes the difference between a website that converts Browsers to Buyers.

Hospitality-Focussed

With 25+ years hospitality experience, I have a good handle on all things hospitality & tourism.

Clear and Concise

We provide you with a clear roadmap of what to expect and next steps, so you’re never left wondering what’s next. Your project starts when you’re ready, and is done, start-to-finish, in a quick couple weeks.

SEO & Marketing Support

A website isn’t a one-and-done solution. It needs consistent growth and content to thrive and rank on Google. This is why SEO is a major part of our web design service. Most designers create a beautiful site and then send you out in the wild to hopefully rank with Google. Not us. You’ll have a strong plan moving forward with how to start - and stay - in Google’s good books.
